I opened a Roth IRA at a credit union… do they invest it for me or do I have to pick were the money goes?

You’ll have to choose your initial investments. If you choose investments like mutual funds, they are managed by a fund manager. Mutual funds are typically good choices for inexperienced investors, or those who prefer to have someone else manage the money.
